ROLE PURPOSE

You will work with the Japan technology team to manage and deliver new and existing mobile and desktop applications to one of my client's key accounts. As the delivery manager, there are multiple applications for device support and desktop applications for call center support, among other systems you will be responsible for. These systems and applications support customer claim processing via multiple channels and further integrate it with their supply chain system. Your objective is to provide a seamless and efficient experience, quickly delivering new product initiatives and helping their stakeholders offer highly responsive customer service.

As a software applications Delivery Manager who is passionate about delivering reliable solutions to complex problems, your primary responsibility is to manage software development projects from initiation to closure. In addition, you'll drive the team, communications, schedule, scope, resources, cost, and processes while improving those continuously.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a single point of contact for the application software development team in IT
  • You will manage 3-5 full-time employees and be responsible for about 20 contractors dispatched for software development at my client. 
  • In the capacity of a Project Manager/Team Leader, you will communicate and collaborate effectively within the development team and with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Understand the requirement, architecture and technology solutions proposed to drive the estimation and implementation
  • Estimate resources, time, and cost required for software development in cooperation with the scrum master and technical leads.
  • Create or support a business case definition document that describes the business background, business benefits, scope, schedule, budget, and security requirements and get approval through the IT governance process.
  • Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), including allocation of available capacity of resources to clarify the release schedule and get stakeholders' agreement.
  • Define a communication plan to promote the project and inform stakeholders.
  • Continuously review estimates and actuals through tracking of allocated capacity burndown. Leverages project management methodologies to deliver IT projects on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to prepare IT governance process materials to complete defined quality gate reviews, including obtaining necessary approvals before releasing applications to the production environment.
  • Collaborate with a distributed team of technical leads, architects, developers, testers, project managers, product managers, UI/UX designers and other engineers on the team.
  • Effectively manage day-to-day activities across multiple projects.
  • Open-minded, pragmatic and motivated to continuously explore/learn technical and non-technical skills aligned with product delivery
  • Effectively communicate the feasibility of requested deliverables and timelines to stakeholders.
  • Maintain proficiency in applying and using systems, tools, and processes within the department's scope.
  • Maintain proficiency in the business processes that drive the applications within the department’s scope.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the company's applications and system integration to anticipate cross-system or cross-process impacts.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing business applications as a software technology manager, project manager, product manager, or as a delivery manager
  • Experience in leading a team of onsite and offshore-based hybrid time zone development teams.
  • Experience managing software development teams developing mobile applications on iOS/Android/React Native platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience in publishing mobile apps to Google Play and Apple stores
  • Knowledge of mobile development tools such as xCode, Swift, Android Studio, and related SDKs
  • Understanding or experience or use of technologies such as Vue.js, RUST, React.js, NodeJS, AWS serverless technologies, Firebase Analytics, Rest APIs, mobile webviews, Microsoft .NET framework, Figma, Github, DevOps
  • Extensive knowledge & experience in both traditional and agile Software Development methodologies and processes.
  • Experience in leading and delivering complex and concurrent projects on time and within agreed specifications.
  • Knowledge of IT Architecture concepts, logical & physical data models, SQL/No-SQL databases and related Technology products.
  • Experience in software development projects delivery using cloud platforms - Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Facilitate Business Stakeholders and prioritize project items (Plan/Budget/Scope/Resource) based on estimated workload /business requirement.
  • Review project status with the development lead, identifies project risks/issues, execute mitigation plans and communicate status to business and IT leadership.
  • Maintains leadership, influence, and flexibility to promote a team atmosphere.
  • Maintain proficiency in applying and using systems, tools, and processes within the department's scope.
  • Manage and mentor scrum teams to reach their full potential and create a passion to drive teams to success.
  • Business level Japanese & English
  • Bachelor of Engineering, preferably in Computer Science and Engineering.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding or experience or use of technologies such as Typescript, Azure, Google Cloud, and mobile applications (fully native or using frameworks like React Native).
  • Professional level Japanese.
